Below we will guide you to our content packed pages about ottomans and chairs – remember that there is plenty more to do here but these are your best starting points:

  • Ottomans come in a variety of styles and shapes. One of the most popular types have a trunk or storage space for space saving storage. Our dedicated page to ottomans with storage will cover everything from how to maximize your storage space to how to build your own. We’ll also recommend the best places to buy them at a low price from our experiences.
  • This blog may be titled cube ottoman, but that doesn’t mean we don’t show some love for our esteemed brother, the round ottoman. Check out our round ottomans page for all the details. Cube ottomans may be more functional, but there’s nothing sexier than a round ottoman. Remember Austin Powers when he’s laying on the ottoman bed trying to seduce Mrs. Kensington? Yup, that was a round ottoman bed.

Interesting Facts About Ottomans

  1. Ottomans can also be called the following: footstool, tuffet, hassock or pouffe. Try using one of those next time you’re at a party or your friends are over. “Hey dude! Get your feet off of my pouffe! It’s brand new!”
“Hey bro! You’re gonna spill that drink all over my new hassock. No one fucks with my hassock!”
  2. I’m just going to quote wikipedia here because they tell it best:

Hassock has special association with churches, as it is used to describe the thick cushions employed by the congregation to kneel on while in prayer.

The names tuffet and hassock are both derived from English names for a small grassy hillock or clump of grass, in use since at least the sixteenth century. Pouffe is a nineteenth century French import for “something puffed out”.

A tuffet is also an English unit of capacity, equal to 2 pecks, or half a bushel.

Another connotation of the word tuffet is the description of an inflatable landing area for precision accuracy parachute landings.

Types of Cube Ottomans

The cube ottoman is different than other ottomans because it is perfectly square. Don’t let other rectangular ottomans or pouffes fool you into thinking they can join the elite and exclusive cube club. Cube ottomans sometimes don’t even look like ottomans. Like these for example:

These just look like big square pillows. The ones that are made of memory foam are freakin genius though. It’s the ultimate comfort. THey should put memory foam in more shit. I’m thinking of designing a coffee table that has a 1′ border of memory foam around it so you can rest your feet on some sweet cushyness. You could use a cube ottoman as a coffee table, but not a very great one. These boring pillowy cube ottomans are only good with bean bags and other non luxury items in my opinion. And for that they get a big thumbs down in my book. :-(

I prefer cube ottomans that look like the interior of a Bentley. Leather with visible stitching across the sides and sometimes even dissecting the quadrants to make 16 little squares throughout.  These types of ottomans are more complimentary to a couch or sofa set. That being said though, even if you didn’t have a couch or chair that matched the ottoman it would still look awesome on it’s own and even perhaps be the center of attention in the room. Here are some examples of what I mean:

Cube ottomans are somewhat limited in the design, being a cube and all. They are still cool however. I’d say the regular odd shaped round and rectangle ottomans can be more creative, but you can still find some really weird cube ottomans out there:
